Budget 2022: North-East gets 1,500 crore package

The Union Budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 was welcomed by Tripura's Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance responsibility. He said it is a forward-looking budget based on macroeconomic principles, with similar allocations made for the entire country.

Jishnu Dev Varma praised Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, for her $1.500 billion infrastructure drive in the North East.

Mr. Varma said, "This is a broad budget for the country and it will be very beneficial for the North East. ₹ 1,500 crore for the North East's infrastructure development is the need of the hour. She talked about 'Gati Shakti'--which I feel translates to the government's initiatives to logistics. Logistics for both goods and humans. Apart from that, 25,000 kilometers of highways are going to be constructed that will also help North East's highway's network in expansion."

The Deputy Chief Minister also mentioned the 60,000 crores set aside for 'Nal Se Jal' and Ropeways in hilly states, saying, "This is a broad budget that has an allocation for everyone. There are no special favours for anyone".

"The country recorded an all-time high GST collection of ₹ 1 lakh 4o thousand crores. The Fiscal deficit has also slipped and the way allocations are made keeping all sectors in mind with special stress in infrastructure, the GDP growth is also estimated to be between 8 to 8.5 percent, it's really commendable and the country is on the right path. I thank the Finance Minister for allocating funds for the North East. Infrastructure Building is a challenge here in the North East. I feel under the leadership of PM Modi the country will grow further," he praised Prime Minister Modi's efforts in moving the country forward.

“The country recorded an all-time high GST collection of Rs 1 lakh 40 billion rupees. The fiscal deficit has also been reduced and the way in which the allocations are made taking into account all sectors with a special emphasis on infrastructure, GDP growth is also estimated between 8 and 8.5 percent, it is really commendable and the country is on the right track. I thank the Minister of Finance to allocate funds for the Northeast. Building infrastructure is a challenge here in the Northeast. I feel that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the country will grow even more,” He praised Prime Minister Modi's contribution to the country's progress.

According to him, the Union Budget discusses solar lighting, aspiration blocks, and aspiration districts, among other things. Dhalai district and four blocks have already been designated as ambition blocks in Tripura.

When asked how this budget will affect Tripura's budget, Mr. Varma replied, "The main spirit of our budget will be to ensure the wellbeing and welfare of people, creation of employment opportunities, and sustainable development".
